TDS recently worked with a global financial institution to assess and develop a comprehensive data center strategy. The organization currently operates multiple data centers globally and was seeking potential strategic deployment options which will optimize existing investments in critical IT infrastructure while incorporating modern cloud and virtualization technologies.
As a leading financial institution, they follow disciplined investment and maintenance schedules and, as such, has a large and trusted source of valuable resources available that can be integrated in that strategic optimization.
TDS worked closely with the IT team and business leader to build a unified data center strategy that would guide decision making and serve as the foundation for the company’s global IT infrastructure footprint. Key decisions such as opening new facilities, closing existing facilities, consolidating facilities, technology hosting decisions, etc. had been driven primarily by near-term regional business objectives.
A governance model and associated process had not been established to ensure stakeholder involvement throughout the IT landscape. There was also a critical need to improve the disaster recovery and business continuity capabilities across the enterprise. TDS built a structured workstream using an agile approach to develop the discovery and strategy process for the critical, first phase of the initiative.
